The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder claimed that he is happy at his current club and is unfazed on the collapsed deal at the start of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Lars Bender, has admitted that he has no regrets over a blocked move to Bayern Munich at the start of the season. He insisted that he is satisfied with his performances for his current club and is delighted to be playing in the
UEFA Champions League next season.
The Bavarian giants showed keen interest in signing the midfielder from Leverkusen in last summer’s transfer window but the player opted to stay with his current side and the Reds went on to sign Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 from Athletic Bilbao instead. Bayern ended the
season with the magical treble comprising of the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and the German Cup.
Bender claimed that he wanted to move to Bayern Munich but opted to stay in the end when the situation looked bleak. The player admitted that he accepted the situation and moved on. He is currently happy at the club and is impressed with the way Leverkusen
has performed in the previous campaign.
“My employer is Bayer Leverkusen. When it was clear that the deal was about to collapse, I accepted the situation. That was fine with me. I have a contract until 2017 and feel very comfortable at Bayer. We've played good football. Generally, I don't look
back and rather focus on the future,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Lars Bender added that it will be tough for his side to live up to the expectations of the fans in the Champions League. However, he is confident that a few additions to the squad in the summer will do a great deal for the team.
“We have a tough season ahead of us with the Champions League. It's great that we will participate. We have achieved more than it was expected from us. Of course, we would like to end up in a similar position next season, which will be difficult,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen finished the season in third place behind the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
