Lars Petter Nordhaug bags 100th victory for Team Sky at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal
Lars-Petter Nordhaug’s most recent victory at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal is not the biggest for Team Sky but it is definitely one of the best performances by the Norwegian throughout his career.
He was recently seen in action at the Tour of Denmark, where he managed to secure a stage victory during the stage 3 of the race.
The cyclist was exceptional during the Trofeo Deia 2012 where he managed to claim the top overall position and overcame the race favourites.
The Canadian victory might have been the third win for Nordhaug but his victory was of far more worth for Team Sky, as it marked the 100th UCI victory for the British team, as noted by Teamsky.com.
"That was incredible. I was riding for Edvald [Boasson Hagen] originally because we thought it was going to come down to a sprint,” Petter cited.
“I just tried to sit on the front to cover the counter-attacks, but felt so strong in those last 4km that I just rolled off alone," Nordhaug noted on Teamsky.com. "When I saw those three guys were coming I waited a bit and then joined them”.
“I didn’t think I would take the sprint because the other guys in that group were very fast, but I just had unbelievable legs today, so to win was fantastic”.
Team Sky is having a terrific season and currently holds the top overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with as many as 1556 UCI points to its credit.
Bradley Wiggins (601 points), Christopher Froome (376 points), Edvald Boasson Hagen (241 points), Michael Rogers (194 points) and Sergio Henao (144 points) helped the side with maximum contributions throughout the season.
Team Katusha is holding the second position with 1073 points while Team Liquigas-Cannondale (1048 points), Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step (866 points) and Team Movistar (831) occupy the next three positions respectively.
Team Sports Director Stephen de Jongh was delighted after reaching such a landmark and voiced that completing a century of victories in less than three years is just great.
He explained that Team Sky had a slow start and faced many difficulties earlier on but it managed to catch up and is now undoubtedly the best cycling team in the circle.
