Larsson/ Woehr defeat Mladenovic/ Piter to clinch Doubles title – e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open 2011
The Swedish-German duo of Johanna Larsson and Jasmin Woehr delivered a scintillating performance in the final match against the French-Polish pair of Kristina Mladenovic and Katarzyna Piter to clinch the 2011 e-Boks Sony Ericsson
Open title, a WTA International event, being played here in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The first set of the match was on fire as both pairs held their serve in the first six games to tie the score at 3-3. Although the French-Polish duo of Mladenovic and Piter managed to put themselves on the scoreboard in the sixth
game, it was of no avail. Reeling off three consecutive games from thereon, the winning pair was able to clinch a 6-3 victory for themselves. Though the winning pair did not win a single point on their second serve (0%) as compared to their opponent’s (40%),
Larsson and Woehr were able to clinch the first set with 6-3 scoreline.
Mladenovic and Piter delivered two aces and committed one double fault in the opener. In contrast, the second seeded pair did not fire any ace but managed to convert 75 percent of their 94 percent first serve. Larsson and Woehr
succeeded in converting 100 percent of the break points and clinched the first set in no time.
The second set followed the same note with both teams comfortably holding their serves, keeping the score on even terms. Enjoying a one set lead in the contest, Larsson and Woehr once again unleashed their range of forehands in
the second set. Not allowing their opponent’s any opportunity to get on the board, the winning pair successfully broke Mladenovic and Piter twice to secure the e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open title for them, taking only sixty minutes of play.
The winning duo of Larsson and Woehr wrapped up their first doubles title together with four aces and one double-fault. In addition, the winning pair scored 64 percent of points on service, 48 percent of points on return and a
total of 53 of 95 in the process. By contrast, the French-Polish pair of Mladenovic and Piter scored 52 percent of points on service, 36 percent of points on return and 44 percent of points in total
Larsson now owns two WTA doubles titles with the first at the Bell Challenge tournament, where partnering with Sofia Arvidsson, she defeated the American-Czech duo of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova. In contrast,
the German player is much more solid in this department, winning her fourth title of the year, following Brussels and Belgium on clay courts and at Istanbul and now Copenhagen on hard courts.
