Larsson/Woehr lose against Cornet/Parmentier in the quarterfinal – Texas Open 2011
German Jasmin Woehr and Swedish Johanna Larsson lost against the French duo Alize Cornet and Pauline Parmentier on hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas, during the quarter final of the Texas Open 2011. The French
scissors snapped the German and Swedish pair with a 6-4, 1-6 10-1 in just 71 minutes of play.
During the first set of the match neither of the players threw an ace, while Larsson/ Woehr struck one double fault but the French pair’s accuracy did not slip even once and hence, struck zero double faults.
By achieving 18 out of 27 points, making it a commendable 67% win Cornet/Parmentier, had utilized their forearms against the German and Swedish pair, who were only able to attain 9 out of 27 points in their total returns of the
set.
A defence that was like a brick wall which rebounded most of their opponents’ shots enabled the French couple to achieve a 43% win of the total return points, in opposition to Woehr and Larsson, who also had an above average win
of 57% in the total service points of the opening set but it was not as good as the Frenchs’.
Both the squads had won and saved 50% of their break points each but because of the statistical edge that the French got (as they broke their opponents’ twice), they bagged the set.
Following their loss, team Germany and Sweden did not waste for time in finding their rhythm and eventually pulled up their socks to a comprehensive victory of 6-1 against the French brace.
Although, Larsson/Woehr had struck 3 double faults hitting the net, they were still capable of winning a 75% win their first serves, which alleviated their overall service point score to a 16 out of 25, making it a commendable
64% victory.
Unable to return most of their opponent’s serves, the French attained only 9 out of 25 points, making it a 36% win of their total return points; while, the German/Swedish duo clogged an above average 53% win of their total returns
in the second set.
On the contrary, the French brass was unable to hold in the set and soon lost the set because of a poor performance. Larsson/Woehr had 8 more points than Cornet/Parmentier in the total set points.
Since both the teams had bagged a set each the match went into a super tie break, during which, the French raced to reach the first 9 points to round off a victory by smashing an ace in the tenth and won the super tie breaker to
secure a berth in the semi final.
