I'm considering moving to Las Vegas(by myself.after i live here awhile i will see if its ok to raise a family at). I'm finished with college and I have $7,000 already saved. I looked on an apartment website and found some apartments, but they are located in North LV. I heard that it is a bad area to live in, but I found some really nice looking apartments there. Is North LV as bad as people are saying?

  1. I own a rental home in North Las Vegas.  If you stick with the Aliante area or the "Northern" area of  North Las Vegas, you will be fine. The Losee and Centennial area have some apartments where the rent isn't crazy yet. Aliante is nice too, but pricier!!!!! This is a nice area to live!!! If you work on the strip or downtown, you will love the location.  The strip is off I-15, and NLV is accessible to I-15. Like any other city, there are seedy areas. Stay away from Nellis and Washington

WIth that being said, the Vegas area is not a place for a family. The public schools are terrible.  It is incredibly hard to land a job in a strip casino unless you know someone.  Another thing to consider, the cost of living tends to be higher in the west. I would visit a couple of times to make sure you like the "local" scene before you move. good luck!!!!!!

  2. Generally speaking NLV is not a great area but you can not take that as a fact. You would have to go and check it out. A lot of developement going on there. Not a great time to move here. The economy is bad and many businesses .. including major casinos are laying off. Even when things pick up they will be looking for experienced workers. If you have a job lined up then do it. ... if you are going to come and blindly look for a position .. I would not recommend it.

  3. STAY AWAY FROM NORTH LAS VEGAS.  Seriously.  You want to be in Henderson, Green Valley or the SW or SE.  Honestly, I've lived here a few years, and you DON'T want to waste your money living in No. Las Vegas.  Wherever your temp job may be, try and keep in the same vicinity.  Traffic is terrible and you'll want to have a place that is close by.

  4. North Las Vegas isn't so nice. Its pretty ghetto, especially at night. North Las Vegas police are always out patrolling the streets because of the crimes and drugs are very bad there. Good Luck

  5. the north has some pretty bad aras. northwest is nice and soo is southwest and summerlin. even henderson and green valley area =]

  6. Some parts of NLV are very nice.  Make sure it does not have a street address with a letter like H.

Realize that you will need first and last month rent plus deposit (usually another month total) plus deposits for any utilities like phone or power.  And jobs are not easy to come by.  If you live in NLV and don't get a job close you will definitely need a car because the bus system is very slow and very very limited.    Check out www.lasvegasnow.com

  7. depends what part of north las vegas...

if its near nellis and stuff it is pretty bad

but near the cannery is a really nice place .

but thats pretty far from las vegas

it looks like lego land from theyre

    hope that helped a lil

  8. North Las Vegas has some seedy parts, and some homes worth over one million dollars. Find the crime blotter and see if what the neighborhood is like.

It should be noted that the higher the concentration of apartments the higher the crime usually is.
