I recently saw the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha." Are there women who are defined as a "Geisha" existent in the United States, such as Las Vegas' "China Town" subculture, or is the "Geisha" an artifact of the past?

  1. Geisha are Japanese, not Chinese.

  2. Geisha's were the Super Stars of Japanese culture.  That was their place.

  3. I was living off of Spring Mountain Rd. in Las vegas where just down the street was the "China Town" you are refering to.

It is a few restaurant, herb stores and a grocery store and bakery. A few other small shops as well.

There are no massage parlors in that Mall.

they are all along that street but not in the Mall it self.

Geisha's are from Japan not China.

  4. China town is growing.  Lots of restaurants, gift shops, souvenirs shops, a jewelry store, 2 big Asian supermarkets, travel agencies and everything else you can think of.  There is even a Buddhist Wedding Temple there.  But no geishas, as that's a Japanese thing not Chinese.

  5. Geisha's are hard to find in Japan anymore. That part of Japanese culture was never exported to the United States.

Las Vegas imports mostly immediate satisfaction culture. It would be a very unlikely place to look anyway. If you found it anywhere, it would be in New York City.
