Las Vegas - where to stay?

Question

I'm surprising my wife with a trip to Vegas for our anniversary. We're going in December. I definately want a hotel on the strip as it's our first time there. I want to balance betweeen price, luxury, a decent pool that will be open in December, good location on the strip, good and affordable restaurants and an interesting attraction at the hotel.

I had originally looked at TI but then found out that the pool is closed during the winter. We would also like to go to a Cirque show and maybe another show (Stomp, Blue Man, another Cirque, etc) so a hotel that had one of these in house would be nice.

The biggest must is that it is on the strip and within walking distance of the Bellagio Fountains, TI pirate ships, Mirage Volcano, etc.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated for hotels and also for shows to see and other activities to do.
