Traveling alone (Female) I do it all the time. I want a great pool, spa, outside bar, I want to relax and become serene during the day..Then I want to head to the shopping areas as well as the casions.

Looking for a place the gears towards older people. Are there also trips avialable to The Grand Canyon? Is it a waste to rent a car?

Appreciate all repsonses/

  1. If you stay on the strip, it is a waste to rent a car.  The strip buses/monorail are too convenient and cheap.  Most of the Strip casinos have great pools, spas, and outdoor bars. Mandalay Bay is my favorite.  Wynn, Bellagio, Paris, Palms are great, too.  The one drawback about Mandalay Bay is that it is located on the southern most end of the strip.  All of the really good shopping is farther up the strip. (Fashion Show Mall, Caesars, Desert Passage).

Yes, there are trips to the Grand Canyon. You can look on line, and good hotel concierge can help you, too!  I would ask a lot of questions about their safety records.  There was a high profile accident a few years back.   Enjoy!!

  2. I think Loew's Lake resort is a little too tranquil and far from the strip. It is more ideal for the golf vacation.

For a women travelling alone, the Green Valley Ranch is a good option. There is good shopping across the street, a nice spa, a great pool and good restaurants. It's about 9 miles from the strip. Lake Las Vegas is about 21 miles from the strip.

    -----------------------

South Point Casino will give you something similar. A spa and a nice pool but at a much lower price. At about 2000 rooms it is the largest off-strip casino hotel resort. About 5 miles south of the strip.

On strip the Mandalay Bay has the best pool and is geared to older crowd than Hard Rock, or The Palms.

I don't think The Orleans is what you have in mind. It is budget priced, but it is not what I would call serene.

If you are staying off strip than a car is probably useful.

  3. Not sure how much this will help but, I stayed at the Loews Lake Las Vegas resort which is a part of the much larger Lake Las Vegas Resort area.  All I can say is it was great because yes it was nice and quiet during the day, got to play both golf courses there and wasn't rushed or anything (I'm not the best golfer lol).  They have gaming, dining, shopping, spas, everything.  I think there's about four or five different hotels on the property as well as housing and what I could best describe as a small Italian village type of thing.  There are also amazing views of the strip and I don't think its too far away from the strip either.

I can't say enough about this place, it is wonderful.

Just give the website a look, its worth it.

Also 1) I don't think its a waste to rent a car and 2) Whatever hotel you stay at at the Lake Las Vegas I know could definitely hook you up with a Grand Canyon trip, I'm almost positive on that.

  4. Well you described a typical Vegas vacation. It is very calm during the day here and picks up at night. Stay on the strip and you do not need a car to get around but stay off the strip and you have to have a car to get around. Traffic is pretty bad here especially on weekends ... Try the Orleans which is off the strip but easy to get around when driving.

You will get coupon books at the hotel and all around Vegas that will have coupons for Grand Canyon trips. Use them.

  5. I think the Westin Causarina might be a good choice.  They have a promo running with lots of discounts including 20% off of their spa services that I found at:

You can arrange for a Grand Canyon tour before you arrive through the web or wait until you get there and ask for brochures.  Renting a car is a good idea if you will be staying for a few days and would like to see a lot of different attractions.  The Las Vegas strip is huge.  If you are not staying long, you could use taxis, shuttles, or the bus/monorail systems to go between your destinations.
