Las Verglas Star to shine in the Bet365.Com Stakes (Handicap)
The Class 2 Bet365.Com Stakes (Handicap) has brought together eighteen four-year and above runners for the mile, a furlong and 192 yards race. The £28,013 prize money event will be hosted by Goodwood. Two among the line-up, Danadana and Landaman, have struck a back-to-back and are bidding for a hat-trick today.
Not only because of recent consistency in performance but due to the reasonable outcome from the meet previous season has given an edge to the four-year-old grey gelding, Las Verglas Star, who is backed by 11 to 2 odds for the race today.
The Irish grey gelding has raced through the 2012 season five times and it was only during the last two attempts that her rankings improvised.
He started the season with the last position in the Paddock Package Handicap on 10th April, 2012 at Pontefract over a mile and two furlongs. The race was won by, Deauville Flyer.
Verglas’ gelding then qualified as the runner-up in the Ladies Day Handicap on 21st June, 2012 at Ripon race course over a mile and a furlong.
He started off strongly at the beginning of the race but did not pace up. The four-year-old made progress when just three more furlongs remained and was ridden over as one of the three furlongs went down. He was defeated by the winner, Lieutenant Kojak, by the margin of just half a length.
Las Verglas Star was ridden by jockey, Tony Hamilton.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Jonny Lesters Hair.
The Richard Fahey trained then finished next to the best in the KelTbray Handicap on 22nd July, 2012 at the Ascot race course over a mile and two furlongs. The race turned out to be a stress full for the grey gelding as he struggled for lead almost throughout the race and even with two furlongs out, raced on the outside and then battled inside the final furlong with the favourite winner, Ahzeemah.
The four-year-old out of mare, Magnificent Bell, will be ridden by jockey, Paul Hanagan, and the duo has been drawn the third gate to race from. He will need to look out for competition and retain form for success today.
