Hello.

Well i am 16 years old and i am seriously considering a career in the police force. I know about the courses and that but my eyesight is pretty poor, and i know that its not good enough for the police force, i doubt its even good enough for driving without glasses.

I have not yet been to the opticians but i will go soon.

My actual question is :

If at 18 i have laser eye treatment, will that improve my eyesight enough for me to get into the police force?

I really have my heart set on getting into the police and will try as hard as i possibly can, i'm just wondering if my eyesight will be good enough after laser eye treatment?

Also if you could also answer which grades are needed to join.

Thanks alot in advance.

  1. Lots of officers have had laser eye surgery.  Vision requirements vary from department to department, but most will accept up to 20/60 if corrected to 20/20.  I have seen some departments accept 20/200 if corrected to 20/20.

  2. The only person who could tell you would be your eye doctor. there is no way anyone could tell you whether or not your eye sight will be good enough, or whether or not laser eye surgery will correct it enough to let you become a police officer
