I recently bought a laser printer and when you switch it on after a while it smells of wet paint (after which I quickly switched it off). It is second hand and looks as though it has been stored for a while. Is the printer safe to use or not?? Or is it just it has been near painting and kept so some the smell inside it?

  1. This smell is normal as a laser printer melts the toner to be transferred onto the printer paper.

  2. Laser printers create a lot of ionized air which can smell kind of funny. Additionally laser printers work by melting ink dots trapped inside of waxy shells. This too can smell kinda funny. I'd say if you don't see any dripping paint coming out of it... you're fine!

  3. It is comity normal smells of wet paint. The laser printer uses the toner and this toner is put on the paper and tow roller that are hot melt the toner and make the print permanent this some time can make the wet paint small.
