i was wondering if you could use a diode out of a ps2. if you can bring me step by step

  1. If I understand your question, you're asking if you can use the laser diode out of the optical drive of a Sony PS2 as a laser pointer.  

    Perhaps, but it won't be straightforward. The simple reason is that those diodes are usually integrated with a small spherical lens that focuses the beam on the reflective substrate of the disk.  Since the beam converges rapidly, it also diverges rapidly... it is not collimated.  Thus it will not project as a focused spot at an extended distance.

    I'm not certain about these particular laser diodes, but in the absence of a focusing lens (e.g, if you could get them apart) most diodes project a divergent beam; So even if you can get the diode and lens apart, you'll probably still have the same basic problem.  Unless you want to add external optics, it will probably be difficult to get the kind of behavior you are looking for.
