Laser technology introduced at the RBC Heritage
A new technology has been introduced at the Harbour Town Golf Links, and now the ball position can easily be detected by the use of laser.
According to the officials, this new and innovative technology is expected to add more perfection in golf tournaments.
On the other hand, the laser will pinpoint the ball position and such information will be communicated throughout the world in seconds.
In between, a communication truck will be used, which will transfer the laser message to the televisions worldwide.
The volunteers will play a prominent role, as more than 1,000 volunteers will be using this technology while the players will be performing at the PGA Tour staged, the RBC Heritage, from April 12 to 15, 2012.
Like never before, the officials decided to use the volunteers in a better way. Now, they will be an important part of the tournament to relay the players’ game to the world effectively.
“The tour is adding more responsibilities every year,” Heritage Volunteer Coordinator Ray Angell said. “Five or six years ago, we didn’t have the lasers. We’ve had to add more volunteers as the tour has added responsibilities”.
The RBC Heritage is organised by PGA Tour every year, in the month of April. The official purse is $5.7 million, out of which, the winner will earn $1,026,000 and additional 500 FedEx Cup points.
The use of such an innovative technology and involvement of 1,000 volunteers will benefit the economy of South Carolina as well.
“While there have been studies about the impact on the area, there is not a specific dollar amount which can easily be pinpointed directly to the town of Bluffton,” Anthony Barrett, the Town Manager, said.
On the other hand, this news is also attracting more spectators towards the course. The ticket sales have doubled and more visitors are expected than the previous years.
In 2010, it was recorded that the $65.5 million profit was due to the arrival of about 25,980 spectators from outside the area. After introducing the new technology, the profits are expected to increase.
The field is already set and Brandt Snedeker will be defending his title. He is hoping to win back the glory again by delivering his best at the Harbour Town Links.
However, there will be tough competition this year and Snedeker has to face the current world No. 1 Luke Donald in the four-day tournament.
