Lasik surgery vs. contact lenses. Your opinion???

Okay, so I am SICK of wearing glasses. I am 15, and I play lacrosse. It is near IMPOSSIBLE to wear those goggles over glasses, and it's hard to play when you can't see the ball.

I have tried to convince my parents of letting me get contacts in the past, but they said I'm not "responsible" enough.

I want to get lasik surgery, and not have to deal with either contacts or glasses.

which is better and how can I convince my parents to let me have one of them?

I get good grades, I baby-sit, and I do chores. I take care of my glasses, and I AM responsible.

Help!!!!!!!

  1. Shelby - you babysit?  Save your money and BUY YOUR OWN CONTACTS.  Contacts are not that expensive.  The initial cost for basic contact lenses (including eye exam, case, cleaning solution) depending on what type you get will be less than $300.

Offer to clean your basement/attic/garage and hold a garage sale and you can easily cover the cost.  You won't have to convince your mother that you are 'responsible' enough.  Just tell her you have the money and ask her to make an appointment for your eye exam.

  2. i've had contacts for two years and they're a lot easier to use and take care of than you'd think. i don't know much about lasik, but i'd try the contacts first.

maybe now your parents will let you get them since you're older? if they say no, just tell them what you told us about lacrosse. they should understand then.

    good luck!

  3. I think lasik-surgery is better.I actually had it done because I could not handle contacts. But I think you have to be 18 for the surgery.

  4. you have to wait until you can get lasik.

but if youre going to keep playing lacrosse, there are prescription goggles. im not sure where you get them, but you can probably ask your eye doctor.

and if youre going to get lasik, you shouldnt wear contacts cause itll scratch your pupil which will make it worse when you get lasik.

youre parents are probably already considering lasik for you. i know most of my friend's parents are considering lasik for their children with glasses and i dont think anyone would strongly forbid you from getting lasik surgery.

and if youre going to get contacts, tell them to get you daily contacts. cause that doesnt require responsibility cause you wear them once and throw them out. and i hear daily contacts are better than those long term ones.

personally, i like my glasses :D

  5. You have to be 19 to get lasik. I would recommend contacts they work well for sports and they are alot cheaper. Lasik is about 5000.00(thats both eyes) and can be more depending on your vision.
