Lasith Malinga blames Sri Lanka cricket for his retirement from Test cricket
The sensational Sri Lankan paceman, Lasith Malinga has blamed the Arjuna Ranatunga-led Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee for aggravating his knee injury, which led to his retirement from Test cricket.
The 27-year-old speedster did not mention anybody’s name, however, he did say it was due to mismanagement of the 2008 interim committee that deteriorated his knee injury, eventually forcing him to bid adieu to the prime format of the game.
"The 2008 interim committee did not care for my well being," complained the speedster on Tuesday.
Explaining his decision of retiring from the Test cricket, Malinga said that his knees were getting weaker by the day and now he couldn't even climb the stairs of his house.
The Galle pacer, who is famous for his slinging round-arm bowling action, said that he was treated dismally by the Ranatunga-led interim SLC committee appointed in 2008 and was offered a basic contract when he deserved better.
Malinga resigned from Test cricket last week citing his knee injury, as he had been warned by his surgeon that fielding and bowling for a prolonged period could deteriorate the condition further.
"I decided that I needed to make myself unavailable for Test cricket so that I can prolong my career as a national cricketer," he added.
The right-arm fast bowler, who is playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the ongoing season four of the lucrative Indian Premier League, returned home today and will rejoin the Sachin Tendulkar-led IPL side on Thursday.
Malinga, who made his Test debut in 2004 against Australia, has so far played 30 five-dayers, picking up 101 wickets at an average of 33.15. His bowling record in limited-overs cricket is much better as he has claimed 127 ODI wickets from
84 appearances,  and 35 wickets in 29 Twenty20 Internationals.
The speedster was hopeful he would be picked for the one-day and Twenty20 series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s 2012 World T20 championship and
2015 World Cup squad.
