Lasith Malinga enters record books after taking second World Cup hat-trick
Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga has registered his name in the record books by picking up a hat-trick against Kenya in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011.
In doing so, Lasith has become the only player to pick up a hat-trick on two occasions in cricket’s global event. In the ICC World Cup 2007, he took four wickets from four balls in a game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, though his team lost the match as they had to
defend a modest total.
Malinga’s great moment came in the 44th over when he cleaned Peter Ongondo, Shem Ngoche and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Elijah-Otieno-c55866.
It was a wonderful exhibition of fast bowling. He bowled with pace, fire and courage. With his speed, he kept the batsmen in the crease and bowled his yorkers at will.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Collins-c51521 Obuya, who racked up half centuries, no one was able to cope
up with the fire of the Sri Lankan spearhead.
Overall, the right-arm pacer picked up remarkable figures of 6 for 38 in 7.4 overs of a lethal spell of fast bowling. In the first spell, he struggled to find a significant amount of swing with the new ball and only picked up a wicket from his four overs.
However, Kumar Sangakkara sensed a kill and brought his premier bowler back into the attack. Malinga found some reverse swing and with his slinging action, the opposition players found it difficult to cope up with his accurate yorkers. In his second spell,
he tore away the Kenyan late order with the old ball, grabbing remarkable figures of 5 for 18 in 3.4 overs.
His performance put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in a comfortable position to win the match and they chased the paltry target with 9 wickets in hand. Malinga, for his match-winning spell, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
