http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s pace spear-head, Lasith Malinga, in a recent interview, has disclosed that he is developing a new delivery which he will unravel in the upcoming T20 World Cup – to be played in Sri Lanka, during the month of September.
Malinga, who is currently playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the Indian Premier League season 5, said that he is looking to add another weapon to his bowling arsenal. The pacer who has a slingy action, held that the new delivery is
in a developing phase and he has not tried it officially as yet.
While talking to Hindustan Times, the Lankan heartthrob claimed, “I am developing a new ball but haven’t used it yet. I am waiting for the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. I want to use it then.”
When stressed to give a few more details about his mystery delivery, Malinga said that it will be a slower one. The speedster, who is known for his toe crushing Yorkers, added that he can’t explain how it is bowled and one has
to see it on the Television to understand how it is done.
“It’s a slower ball. I can bowl but I can’t explain it. You have to see it on TV, how I am doing it. It’s something I tried on my own. I have tried in my training sessions but not in the nets,” said the 28-year-old cricketer from
Galle.
Malinga added that he will work on the delivery when he goes back to Sri Lanka, as he does not get enough time in the nets during the IPL.
Malinga believes that sticking to the script is vital in a T20 game. The Sri Lankan international is currently the leading wicket-taker of the IPL5. He has notched 20 wickets in the tournament from nine games. The pacer has been
quite economic as well and has maintained an economy rate of 5.32.
“There’s no secret, just that I want to be there when the pressure is on. The batsman may know I am going to bowl a Yorker or a slow ball now but he still has to hit it. That’s it,” Malinga said before signing off.
