Lasith Malinga upset by fake injury reports – Cricket News
Sri Lankan speedster, Lasith Malinga, revealed on Tuesday that he was upset by reports alleging that he faked a knee injury to make himself unavailable for his national team assignment. The report added that Malinga made the move so that
he could continue playing in the Indian Premier League.
The 27-year-old Sri Lankan pacer, who is famous for his unique slinging round-arm action, had excused from participating in the three-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, citing a knee injury. He, however, continued playing in the T20 league
for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians.
Malinga’s actions prompted Sri Lankan Chief Selector Duleep Mendi, to term the situation as ‘awkward’ and the fast bowler was called back home to join a rehab program to fix his troublesome knee.
Malinga, while talking to the media reporters, said, "There were lots of reports in the media insinuating that I might be feigning an injury to play in the IPL. This was very upsetting as I have always been totally committed to playing for
Sri Lanka."
The speedster had latter resigned from Test format of cricket but he confirmed today that he will be available for the ODI and T20 format of the game.
Malinga added, "I assured them that I remain totally committed to playing for Sri Lanka."
The right-arm speedster, who made his Test debut in 2004 against Australia, has so far played 30 Test matches, picking up 101 wickets at 33.15. His bowling record in limited overs cricket is much better, as he has claimed 127 ODI wickets
from 84 appearances. In T20 cricket, he has 35 wickets in 29 matches.
Malinga dismissed reports that he has been asked by the board to stop playing in the IPL and return to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 for a rehabilitation program.
Giving details of his injury, the yorker-specialist said that he first sustained the knee injury back in 2008, while playing in an ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750
last year.
He said that the ‘career-threatening’ injury prevented him from playing ODI matches for 16 months. He revealed that his surgeon has advised him to avoid fielding or bowling for prolonged periods, as it can further deteriorate his condition.
