Lasse Jensen seeks to lead the Challenge Tour Rankings by securing high position at Madeira Islands Open – Portugal
Lasse Jensen has high plans to reach the top of the Challenge Tour Rankings, as he seeks to score well at the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal.
The 27-year-old Danish golfer displayed an amazing performance at The Barclays Kenya Open in April 2012.
He scored enormously in a four-day tournament and shot a 10-under 274. On the other hand, he was consistent in scoring throughout the four days and recorded 69, 71, 65 and 69, respectively.
The Englishman, Seve Benson won the title in a playoff mode, as he made an early birdie against Jensen, at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya.
Jensen earned €20,900 which boosted his confidence. Now, he is planning to be on the top of the rankings, by winning the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal.
The Portuguese tournament is staged by the European Tour and it is also a major event at the Challenge Tour.
“This tournament, along with Saint Omer and the Kazakhstan Open, are like three Majors for the Challenge Tour,” said Jensen.
“The prize fund is much larger than what we usually play for on the Challenge Tour so it’s important to play well in these events”.
He added:
“If you do well in two or even all three you know you’re going to be up there in the Rankings. I’m fifth at the moment so this is a great opportunity to really make my mark for the rest of the season and give myself a good chance of getting a European Tour
card for the first time”.
Before performing in Kenya, Jensen also played three tournaments in the current year. He finished on the 30th position at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic in March.
He faced a tough time while scoring at The Gujarat Kensville Challenge 2012 and the Joburg Open. He finished beyond the 80th position in both events.
However, he is now confident enough for the upcoming tournament, after securing the runner-up position in Kenya.
Analysts said that Jensen can deliver his best. He can reach the top of the rankings by making good scores. If he finishes the tournament in the top 5, he can meet his goals.
