Last Fighter strong in the Fortiguardian Maiden Stakes
The Class 5 Fortiguardian Maiden Stakes has gathered six three-year-old runners who will take their chances over the mile and seventy-five yard race at Nottingham on Wednesday, 31st October. The total prize money set for the race is £2,264. Majority of the candidates are lightly raced, while for one of them, Hassle, the race will serve as the career debut.
An interesting contestant in the line-up is the three-year-old bay gelding, Last Fighter. He failed in both the attempts to break the maiden, but held on tight to the second position in both the outings.
The Saeed Bin Suroor trained has been guided through at both the instances by the same jockey, Silvestre De Sousa.
He ended four lengths behind the winner, Strada Facendo, in the Tony And Karen Married Here Today Maiden Stakes on 18th September, 2012 at Folkestone over seven furlongs.
Cape Cross’ Irish bay gelding out of, Launch Time, had his next stop in the Dormouse Maiden Stakes on 9th October, 2012 at Leicester over seven furlongs.
This time entered as the favourite, he took his time to set in pace after racing out of the seventh stall. He put in all the effort and energy in the start which cost him the race as his speed faded inside the final and decisive stages of the race.
The losing margin leaped by two more lengths as the Irish bay gelding was left adrift by six lengths.
The race was won by, Panzanella.
Riding with the same jockey can prove out lucky for him in a sense that the rider is already aware of the loop holes that got his ride only to the second position in both the races. Reserving energy to burst out with speed in the end has to be the way around for Last Fighter.
He will need to look out for the Clive Cox trained, Hassle, the newcomer and the three-year-old bay filly, Surreal, who qualified as the runner-up in the most recent attempt.
The Sir Michael Stoute trained ended next to best in the Ladbrokes Game On! Maiden Stakes on 15th October, 2012 at Windsor over a mile and half a furlong.
