Last Instalment beats Call The Police to win at Leopardstown
Last Instalment ran to an impressive victory in the DR. P.J. Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown in Ireland on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Only four entries were attracted to the event.
The seven-year-old horse ran pretty decently right from the start of the race and did not allow the rest of the pack to come anywhere closer. He kept on pressing hard through the middle section as well and that helped him end up on top by one and a half
length.
This was the fourth chase race for Philip Fenton’s trained horse, who was also the favourite to win with a starting price of 8 to 11. He has kept a 100 percent record in such events and will now be headed to Cheltenham in England for the RSA Chase on Wednesday,
March 14, 2012.
Last Instalment’s trainer was pleased with the outcome of Sunday’s race and said, “My biggest concern was leaving the back straight when the others were stacking up behind, but he answered every call which is the sign of a good horse. He goes to Cheltenham
for the RSA, but he wouldn't want it any quicker than it was today - if it was he might not go.”
On the other hand, veteran trainer Willie Mullins was not much happy with the performance of his horses, Call The Police and Lambro. Both were expected to battle for race victory, but failed to challenge the winner in the end.
However, Mullins was still not bothered much, as he enjoyed success in another event on Sunday, the Hennessy Gold Cup. The race was won by Quel Esprit, who started as the favourite with a rate of 5 to 4.
The eight-year-old horse was ridden by Ruby Walsh, who has been enjoying terrific form over the past few events. His partnership with Mullins' trained horses has been going very well.
After partnering Quel Esprit to victory at Leopardstown, Walsh stated, “He came into this a 150-rated horse and he's probably a 160-rated horse now but he still has to improve another stone to compete with the likes of Long Run and Kauto Star. But he's won
a Hennessy and he's entitled to run in a Gold Cup."
