Question:

Last Minute Wedding! What do I do?

by  |  earlier

Help! My fiancee just decided that we are going to get married tomorrow. I am so excited! But I'm at a total loss! I don't mind a fast low key wedding, but I want a little tradition thrown in for good measure. Nothing big, but just a few things to make it like a real wedding.

Does anyone have some quick last minute ideas?

I don't need a big white gown, but a white dress would be nice, and maybe a cake.

Any ideas?

We are getting married tomorrow at the courthouse.

Thanks

  1. Go to the store and get a garter and a couple of nice champagne glasses for a toast.  Go to the grocery store tonight to see if you can get a cake made for tomorrow. They usually bake and decorate them early in the morning. They may be able to add flowers to a birthday type cake to make it look more wedding. Congrats.  We did a small wedding then a party a couple of weeks later it was great.  We sent out announcements that said we got married and would like them to join us in a celebration on the date of the party.

  2. Go out shopping tonight. Safeway is open late, and they have pretty cakes. Phone them now, and talk to the bakery department. If no-one's in, leave a message explaining what you're thinking and then go in at 8:00 tomorrow morning. I wouldn't be surprised if they could put together a two-tier cake from cakes they already have baked, and that would be pretty.

Then head off to the dress shops (or phone them) and see if you can find a white dress. At the end of summer, like this, there might be a smaller selection than at the start of summer; but on the other hand whatever you find will probably be on sale.

Then call your best friend and/or your mom and tell her. You'll want a friend to be your witness at the courthouse, and a good friend might well offer to call some people and put together a quick potluck celebration for afterward.

I'm very happy for you -- and I don't even know you! A last-minute surprise wedding is so romantic!

  3. What is the HURRY? Are you guys going somewhere? Think before you act Sister!

  4. go to a florist and get a bouquet and buttonier sp?

get a small bottle of champagne and glasses for a toast

Get a sheet cake from a bakery and ask for wedding decorations

I put together a small wedding for someone over a weekend most of the vendors were charmed by the idea

  5. CONGRATULATIONS!

last minute stuff? hmm... get someone to take some pictures of you guys after the wedding. book a photographer or get someone in your family or a close friend to do it. dont forget the rings. go out for a nice dinner at the end, and get a lovely dress and tiara (really if u want the tiara, just an idea) get a nice necklas and some jewlery some nice shoes. get dinner reservations, and make sure u get some flowers.

    yay!

*if you cant book a photographer today, see about looking for a great digital camera, if you dont already have one.

OR!!!!! HAVE A BARBEQUE!!!!!! invite all ur family and close friends, pick up a cake, and your set.  some balloons here and there... volla! its set!

JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES! your gonna want to remember that special day forever!

  6. How exciting! Here's some ideas:

Maybe consider going shopping together in the morning and why not pick out nice outfits for each other.  Perhaps it's not the most traditional idea, but it's just another way for you both to be involved in every aspect of the wedding.

Go to a local supermarket and pick up a pre-made cake, you can even call early in the morning and get them to write whatever you want on it.  That's way more affordable than the big fancy wedding cakes anyway.  Or again, bake something together in the morning to enjoy together.

Download some traditional wedding music and make a CD to play while you two are getting married.

Go on a mad rush of a scavenger hunt tonight and tomorrow and find something old, new, borrowed and blue.  Even if you come up with some wacky items, I'm sure it will just add to the spontaneity and fun of the day.

Hope this helps, may you share a wonderful wedding day together and be blessed always.

  7. Congratulations, you sounds really excited. You could run to your local grocery store and pick up a cake, if you're getting married later in the day you might be able to get one made to pick up later tomorrow in the early afternoon. Pick up some flowers from the grocery store as well. Does you dress have to be white? I just attended a very small wedding and she was wearing a very pretty blue and black spheghetti strap dress. She looked beautiful. You might be able to find a good deal on a clearance rack at a bridal shop too, or even a smile evening gown. White shoes/sandles might be a little harder to find, look on the clearence rack. Even a nice suit jacket with a skirt would look nice really nice. Good Luck!

  8. Wow. Why? Can't he give you like a week or something to prepare? That is really, really odd.

Anyway, go to the mall or a nearby store like Macy's, JCPenny's, or Sears and look for a white dress. Also see if you can find a couple of wedding bands while you're there.

If you do get married tomorrow, stop by the grocery store on the way to pick up some flowers to make a bouquet. Even my local grocer could throw something together and wrap the stems with a ribbon in about ten minutes.

Also get a white cake with white icing. Afterwards, maybe go out to lunch or dinner, and have your cake there. The restaurant will serve it to you.

The JoP can provide witnesses (usually the bailiff and court stenographer), but it would be nice if you had a friend or someone who could go - at least to take pictures. At the very least, take a camera and someone in the courtroom will take a few pics for you.

But seriously, what is the deal with the rush? Maybe your friends or family would like to go. If you call someone tonight, they may not even be able to show up tomorrow.

Has your boyfriend even called and checked on this? At our JoP wedding, we had to make an appointment three weeks before the date. Some places require you to schedule it, while others will fit you in. Some cities also require a three-day waiting period on the license, while others let you pay for it upstairs and run downstairs to get married.

  9. Great idea I love you guys.  Sounds like the most sensible couple on here.  Get something pretty to wear anything in your style but not over the top.  Then go out with friends to your favorite bar or restaurant.  Call everyone, your close friends family etc and see if they want to meet you at your chosen location.  Buy a cake at Costco or something and have fun.  Go to your house after and invite who wants to come.  Buy some beer, wine and champagne.  Have fun Girl!!! great idea.  Then in a few months plan for a dinner if you want, send invites etc...

  10. dont forget something old, new, blue, and borrowed

  11. Get to your local department store and buy a cute dress!  You might be able to get a grocery store to make up a quick cake (if you contact them first thing in the morning)  You'll have to borrow something from someone, something blue could be your dress or you could get a ribbon or headband that's blue.  Pick up aa little bouquet of some pretty flowers, any florist should be able to put something some together for you quickly (again you can do this at some grocery stores).  Good luck!  Have fun!

Also, make sure to have a party later so you can enjoy it with all your friends and family!!!

  12. Any kind of knee length pastel dress you already have would be cute.  You need to keep this as an option in case you can't find something at the last minute, or so that you can save the last minute for enjoying the anticipation, instead of running around looking for a dress.

If you really want something traditional and white, go for pearls.  I don't care if you wear them around your neck, wrist, in your hair or in your ears, just wear them.  They are a classic.

As for the cake, you can buy one from a supermarket at the last minute, but many bakeries usually have a few nice cakes lying about.

Flowers -- if you live in the city a local florist should have plenty of flowers for you to choose from in the store itself.  Otherwise, if you live

in a rural area, try some flowers from the garden, or some wildflowers.

Hair and makeup- don't make a big deal out it.  You are going to be comfortable anyway, so just don't change your routine.

    Good luck!

  13. Some states require a waiting period. You go to the courthouse, get your license and are required to wait x number of hours until you can get married, anywhere from 24hours to 5 days.

    Check your state.

  14. Many people get the legal mearige and then later get the cerimonial done.

  15. Hey baby!  Your sister just texted me about what you were doing.

Just two words:  don't worry ;)

  16. Huh???  Why not this time NEXT week!  There is not much you can do at the last minute.  Grab something out of your closet and pick up a cake after the ceremony.  Really!

If you give it a week you can have some guests?  Time to shop for a dress?  Time to get a small bouquet?  Time to make a reservation at a nice restaurant for a reception?

Really!  Hold off at least a week.  If you do something so quick, you are bound to be one of the ones who write back in another year......."we were married in a rush.  I never got to have ...... and now I am wanting it....so how do I plan my "wedding?"  Remember, the wedding you have (whether it is a rush wedding or one that has been planned for 3 years IS your wedding.)  There are no do-overs because you regret it later on.

Really, don't rush so fast.  There is nothing wrong with putting together a rush wedding...but give it at least a few days....NOT overnight!

  17. Well, I do hope he looked into it a little bit.  In Illinois, you get a license and must wait 24 hours before they will marry you.  Can't just rush off to the courthouse.
