Last Place Carolina Hurricanes rock Boston Bruins with 3-0 Shutout -NHL Update
Sitting in the last place of the Eastern Conference, Boston was looking for an easy win entering their Thursday night matchup against Carolina but it turned out to be the exact opposite as the Hurricanes rocked the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins with
a 3-0 shutout, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
Hurricanes’ goalie, Cam Ward, shined with a perfect 47 save performance, which was certainly a hallmark point in his career since it was not only spectacular but against a top level, championship team that is currently sitting second with 66 points.
This was the fourth and final time the two teams were to be meeting this season and Boston failed to snap their three-game slide against them, now having lost all four in embarrassing situations.
"I think it's a credit to the guys. When we play like that, we're capable of beating very good teams," Ward said. "I mean it's no secret, they're once again Stanley Cup contenders, and to beat them four times is a huge compliment to our team. But we've got
to play every team like they're the Boston Bruins because it seems like they bring out the best in us."
Carolina’s Eric Staal kicked off the scoring with his 12th goal of the regular season a little over midway of the first period, followed by Tuomo Ruutu with an impressive show by taking control of a loose puck and backhanding it through the Bruins’
goalie.
"It feels good to beat them four times, but I would rather be first in the conference and lose to the last-place team four times," said Eric Staal.
Brandon Sutter sealed the scoring of the night by potting in their third of the match at the 3:13 mark of the final period, giving Carolina a more than comfortable lead to take the crucial two points.
Carolina might not have anything to boast about so far in the season, but the one thing they can remain proud about is having beat the Stanley Cup defending team four times straight as they look to hold on to the title.
