Dommayer denies the Malaysian juniors’ victory over German juniors as the match ends in a draw by 4-4
The third match between the Malaysian hockey juniors, Project 2013 team, and the German juniors remained result-less in spite of a wonderful hat-trick from the Malaysian skipper, Mohamed Nor Faeez Ibrahim. Both teams scored four goals in the allotted time
of seventy minutes. The match was played in Manheim Hockey Club on July 11.
The match was evenly balanced between both the opponents as they scored equal number of goals in each half.
The German junior boys took the early lead in the first half, when Anton Ebeling scored the opening goal in the 7th minute, but their lead lasted only for five minutes when the Malaysian skipper, Mohamed Nor Faeez Ibrahim scored the equaliser
in the 12th minute. The Malaysians found the lead in the 17th minute, when Dedi Ariyadi made the second strike for the Project 2013 team, but in the 20th minute Germans levelled the score, when Florian Adrian ticked the score-board.
The first half ended at 2-2.
In the second half Malaysian juniors played exceptionally well and added great pressure on Germany. The skipper once again looked in action by scoring two goals in 40th and in the 62nd minute, Malaysia once again is ahead. But the last
three minutes really belonged to Germany and they scored their third goal in the 67th minute, while the equaliser in the 70th minute.
Mirnawan Nawawi, the team manager of the Project 2013 squad, seemed very pleased and viewed the performance of his junior athletes as the best one in all of the three matches.
“We created a lot of chances and converted four out of the seven penalty corners, we earned in the match,” Mirnawan stated after the match.
“We should have won the match (as we were 4-2 up) but we ended up with a draw because of the umpire. Based on our time, the match should have ended while we were leading 4-3. But the umpire added three and half minutes of extra time. This gave the Germans
the chance to equalise. Overall, our team showed tremendous improvement from the first Test, especially in converting from and defending against penalty corners,” he further added about the umpire’s decision to extend the match  beyond seventy minutes and
about his team’s performance, particularly in their defence and  their finishing ability, which was remarkably improved as compared to first two matches.
In first of the previous two matches, the Malaysian juniors were defeated by the German juniors by 6-3, while their second match ended in a draw.
