  1. according to taco bell their refried beans are vegetarian, but like another poster said i have a hard time trusting any fast food chain.

some taco bell stores will even use the drippings from the ground beef to flavor the refried beans and the spanish rice.......they're not supposed to do that, but since when did people follow the rules?

EDIT:  J.R......very true.  i worked in restaurants way back when, and now i basically have to just turn off everything i know about the restaurant business to be able to eat anything when i go out.  even the way that some places handle something as simple as a salad is pretty gross.  it's sad that people don't take more pride in their work.........

  2. Probably not.  But they are tasty.

  3. I had someone read the ingredients for me on the beans at Taco Bell, and they are not made with lard.  I also knew someone who used to work at Taco Bell, and he told me he used to put a ladle of ground beef in the beans every day.

    I checked http://www.yum.com/nutrition/documents/t... :

    Beans *

Pinto Beans, Partially Hydrogenated Corn Oil (Freshness Preserved With TBHQ), Salt, Calcium Chloride.

Pinto Beans, Partially Hydrogenated Corn Oil (With TBHQ To Preserve Freshness), Salt

*Will Contain One Of The Ingredient Statements Above, Depending Upon Regional Suppliers

EDIT:  Oooh the guac is vegan.  Thanks Mikey!

  4. I've been vegan for over 3 years and eat tacobell all the time,

with a bit of trial and tribulation.

the beans are completey animal free,

The rice does contain casein (non-vegan, but vegetarian-friendsly)

The Fire sauce does contain Lactic Acid, but My roomate emailed them and its derived from beets (non-animal source)

I wouldn't recommend eating at tacobell, if you plan on eating their cheese, and are planning on staying healthy but that is me.

    Nonetheless I order

    Bean Burritos without cheese

    plus guacomole

    plus potatoes (inside the burrito)

    I'd recommend it to everyone.

  5. I wouldn't trust Taco Bell with my diet preferences.

  6. Taco Bell does not use lard in their refried beans, its cheaper to use oil.

    ::edit::

    Indy,

I've heard the beef flavoring thing too, but that's a risk you take when you have someone else prepare your food, regardless of where that may be.  I can't eat at a local restaurant anymore because my brother used to work there and he told me all the ****ed up things that went on... some of which he participated in.  When it comes to restaurants, ignorance is bliss.

  7. I think so.  However, I'm always iffy about how they prepare their food like if they refry their beans with the same utensils and cookware as their beef.  Another thing is that they all use the same gloved hands to prepare everything.  Once my friend ordered a regular mexican pizza & I ordered the beans one and the same lady used the same gloved hands to prepare mine as she did my friend's.  I was so grossed out.

I know that atleast at some Subways,  they will switch their gloves or they have one person who handles veggie people's order (at least to some of the ones I've been to).  But at the same time, it's like other gloved hands that have touched the turkey also touch the lettuce and other veggies so really what is the point?

    Now I'm just ranting haha.

Yeah so to answer your question, yeah perhaps the refried beans are vegetarian but they may as well not be.

  8. Thats why I don't go to fast food places anymore. I hate having to ask myself questions like that.
