  1. This happened to my cat in what sounds like the exact spot.  it healed fine, and there was no surgery needed.  If it did not break the bone, nothing will have to be taken off.  Surgery is always an option but from the sounds of it, this will not be needed.  It sounds like it is not bleeding bad, no bone sticking out or anything so don't worry so much :)  Stuff happens, and this sounds pretty minor.

  2. if that were me I would have gotten her to the vet as soon as it happened there is a chance she may loose the tail.  why didn't you ask the vet for an estimate?

  3. They probably would have to take it off. They should give you an estimate before hand, and then set up an appt. for later in the day or in the week. I don't think it will cost much. Here's something to compare it to: my cat had to have xrays and have a hernia repaired, and it only came to about $350. That kind of surgery is a lot more complex than taking a tail off, so you shouldn't be paying more than that.

  4. It will be expensive...because it is surgery.

So get out the bank card that does not have a lot of charges on it!

  5. this happened to my cat years ago, yes...vet will need to amputate..they will take off more than point of break to get to 'clean' tissue and leave a flap of skin to cover bone end. they make a good recovery(will probably get antibiotic course too) and once they get their balance sorted are fine. my girl went from Luci to Stumpy !!!

It was years ago, so can't remember the cost ;O)

cat will be purring again soon X

  6. Aww I hope your cat is not in a lot of pain.  I have no clue if they are gonig to cut it off or not because this kind of situation never occured. to me.  I don't really know how much it would cost but I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am her tail got caught between the door :(

  7. I don't think it will be that expensive. People get their dog's tails done all of the time. People who have dobermans, boxers etc.

The cat will probably have to get the tail docked. She will feel much better after it heals. Speaking from the experience of a friends cat that had the same injury.

I'm sorry she got hurt, I'm sure that scared you.
