  1. Take it to the vet immediately.  Work out the money issues later.

  2. This needs to be looked at by a vet and the poor kitty probably needs to be on some antibiotics to prevent or treat infection.

It is terribly irresponsible as a pet owner to say you can't afford the vet visit. If you can't afford to properly care for the animal, you need to surrender it. It is not fair and right to let this animal suffer and potential die a painful death because the vets "charge so much money". That is part of being a responsible pet owner.

I don't mean to be harsh but so many people treat pets like they are expendable. It is said that a helpless life that is basically dependent on us humans to take care of would be treated like a replaceable product for the family's enjoyment.

  3. call around to vets and shelters. Chances are theirs a low-cost clinic that will take a look at him. I found one doing that, that only charged $17 for an appointment.

If you absolutly don't have any money to do so, here's what I suggest:

First, the wound has to be kept clean. Get some peroxide and wash it off with that. Be prepared, the cat will freak out. you may need a 2nd person to help.

after the peroxide is done, put some neorsporin on it and bandage it.

Get some poster board from the dollar store  and cut it to make a cone to put around his head. This way he can't take the bandage off and eat the neorosporin.

Check on it and let it air out a lot. CLEAN IT DAILY. Don't use the peroxide daily though, it kills all cells, not just germs.

If at any point that cat stops eating or drinking or whatever, you NEED to get it to a vet. That could be a sign of an infection and fever. That's not anything you can treat and the cat can die from it. Some vets do payment plans. I highly suggest a vet but I've been in that position before...

Look into dog bites too. I know cat bites have a lot of germs and get infected quick..

  4. This cat needs a vet NOW.  No - you should not just cover up the wound.  The cat could have suffered internal damage and/or the bite could be infected.  If you can't afford a vet visit for your cat then why do you have a pet?  And why do you let your cat run around loose outdoors where the likelihood of injury is astronomically higher than indoors????

Pet ownership is a RESPONSIBILITY not a right.  If you can't afford to care for this cat when it's sick or injured then the best thing for it would be for you to surrender it to a shelter so that it can get the care it so desperately needs and can be adopted by someone with the means to care for it.

  5. when a dog bites it doesn't just leave a gash it leaves a hole that is like a ab-sis that can get infected easily and if you don't want to go to a vet you should flush it with  water and a little bit of salt but it would really be better to go tho the vet maybe you could work out a payment plan .

    hope you cat is ok

normally you could ask to talk over the phone to a vet free of charge if you still worried

  6. Neosporin...apply it as often as he will allow you to and dont worry if he happens to l**k at the neosporin it will not hurt him...you can go to walmart and buy their brand of neosporin for under $3 for a tube it is called the Equate brand
