Last night on Paranormal State...?

What was that machine called that supposedly let's the spirits communicate through it, by putting sounds with words? It started with an O, I'm pretty sure.

I wanted to do some research on it because I couldn't figure out how that could possibly work. I was really skeptical, because it just kept repeating the same word over and over...

What did you think of that machine?

  1. yeah i was wondering the same thing  how could it work i dont understand how they would even begin to know what they are saying cuz its not like they can just ask them if thats what they really said you know?

  2. You're at least the third person to ask this question.  Look down the page a bit.

You're right to be skeptical - EM fields to not correspond to words.  Any word he had the machine assign to it would be completely random.  Like pulling a card out of a deck and saying, 'oh, jack of hearts, that means sushi'.  Or cat.  Or whatever you want.  You don't produce EM waves when you speak, and written words certainly don't correspond to EM waves.

  3. it's called an Ovilus, and I thought it was pretty cool

  4. My understanding is that the ovulus has an analog converter, which takes readings from the environment, EMF as well as ELF converts the readings into a formula and then assigns these numbers to a word.

I too found the show extremely facinating, which is why I am on here looking to see if I can find out if the number is assigned to an actual word or just a letter of the alphabet that will eventually form a word. Otherwise I am curious, how are these words pre-determined? Lower total numbers are negative words higher readings are positive words? If a word is assigned to the reading I have some doubts, are these words stored in the ovulus for that number? If its random and the readings only assign letters that eventually make up a word I would think that would be more reliable. I know there is a K2 meter that lights up once for yes and twice for no. I saw it used once on Ghost Hunter when they toured the property where Sharon Tate was murdered. The house was torn down and a new house was put up but that also had extremely interesting results. Although they stated they didn't usually rely on such equipment, the group they met with in Cali used it frequently. Hope that helps a little.

  5. I've never used a "Paranormal Puck" myself. The Ovilius itself does actually seem to be interesting.

And, for the record, a hand doesn't produce phonetic sound, but a computer can interpret the motions of a hand and speak the output. The device is a translator, not an amplifier.

However, I'd love to see how it translates at a power plant (lots of EMF's). This would give a great test to see if it's actually stringing together coherent/relevant words or phonetics, or if it's just random. Then take it on a paranormal hunt where there are signs of activity and see if there were similar reactions there... after two or three nights, a ghost should be able to figure out how the dad-bloomed thing works a little, and be able to kinda communicate.

I have to admit, as a paranormal investigator, I'm skeptical on this one.
