Last place Columbus Blue Jackets rout Detroit Red Wings 4-2 -NHL Update
It was certainly a disappointing time for Detroit as the last place Columbus Blues Jackets routed Red Wings, 4-2, on Wednesday night, March 28, 2012, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus,
Ohio, snapping their two-game winning streak.
Detroit has clinched a playoff spot but are at risk of losing their standing in the Western Conference being only a few points ahead of their trailing Central Division teams. It should
also be a reality check for the team since being dominated by a club like Columbus, Detroit must be pondering upon what they might face in the postseason.
Allen York was in the net for Columbus in his eighth start of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and winning his first major league game against Detroit was certainly
something to be proud of.
"We were midway through the pregame skates and I was having a pretty good practice so I tried to keep it going," York said of getting his first career win. "But honestly, I couldn't
sleep -- couldn't nap today at all. Other than that, I felt great."
"It was awesome," added York. "The boys played great. We didn't give them much."
Columbus made a comeback from their previous 7-2 loss against Red Wings only two night earlier on Monday and could continue winning some more games with their newly found confidence.
Vinny Prospal and Derek Dorsett gave Columbus a much needed lead with two goals straight in the opening 14 minutes followed by Detroit’s first by Henrik Zetterberg on the power play
at 16:23.
Blue Jackets stayed consistent as Derick Brassard and R.J. Umberger added two more for Columbus nearly a minute apart late in the second period.
Niklas Kronwall capped the match off with Detroit’s second and last of the night on another added man advantage, this time with Aaron Johnson out for high-sticking.
"We obviously weren't prepared to play today," Detroit coach, Mike Babcock, said. "So as a coaching staff we didn't do a very good job, for whatever reason."
Columbus Blue Jackets will now be going on to face Florida Panthers at home on Friday while Detroit Red Wings can expect some tough competition against Nashville Predators on the same
day.
