And what can we do to stop men becoming rapists ?

*inspired by answers to my previous question (what can women do to make themselves less vulnerable to rape?) which said that there's so much focus on trying to tell women how to change their behaviour to prevent rape, and none on tryign to make sure men don't feel the need to rape. which is a good point*

  1. 80% of all rapist are from single mother family.

  2. I think they can be born AND made.

  3. A rapist is not called a rapist until he has raped.  So if he spends the first 20 years of his life at a job, or school and then rapes, he's been a rapists his whole life?  That thinking doens't make much logic.  You can't stop anyone from doing anything.  Its called free will.  So as long as everyone still has free will, you can't stop people from making choices, good or bad.

  4. Human sexuality seems to be somewhere in the middle between nature and nurture.  There's no conclusive proof either way so generally I try to accept the things that don't hurt others.  This isn't one of those.

  5. I would guess that this would be a "learned" behavior rather then an inborn one.

Men Can Stop Rape, says "We build young men's capacity to challenge harmful aspects of traditional masculinity, to value alternative visions of male strength, and to embrace their vital role as allies with women and girls in fostering healthy relationships and gender equity."

  6. They are made; no one is born bad.  Children who do not receive the proper parenting at a young age fail to learn empathy, which can lead to criminal behavior.

  7. Rape is all about misplaced anger.  We somehow need to teach would-be rapists that women don't actually *deserve* to be raped.

  8. If there was focus on abusive mothers, there would be fewer rapists.

The connection between many male rapists/serial killers crimes and their abusive mothers is brushed under the carpet but it warrants attention.

Unfortunately the feminists who like to control our perception of domestic violence don't like to acknowledge female violence. I suppose that must make them part of the problem.

  9. you cant stop sickos from being sickos....maybe if prostitution was legalized and made easily accessible, it would lower the rape rates..but then again, prostitution may not be the solution, it may just create more problems....i dont know, ship them all out to a island somewhere and let them go to town on each other...

  10. Rapists, which can be male or female, but much more commonly male,  are made that way. During childhood, they were probably sexually assaulted and it traumatized them for life. So, they release their anger by using rape.

  11. It's like any kind of criminal.

Criminals are either made, or born (insane)

Only the mother and father eductaion can KIND OF prevent it.

Nothing will "stop" it as no other crime will ever stop existing in this world

  12. Rape has nothing to do about how women behave in order to prevent it, nor does any man "feel the need to rape." Rape is essentially an act of predatory violence. Though sexual organs are a major part of the crime, the predator is primarily fueled by a desire to totally dominate, victimize and humiliate. It is not a sexual fetish, perversion nor even a deviance. Many elderly ladies living alone have been raped because a psychopath sees an easy opportunity to sate the desire to victimize a helpless person. In most cases the victim is battered. The same is true for rapists who have used "date rape drugs" on younger victims.

So to answer your question I believe that they are born. They are akin to psychopathic murderers. If it was as simple as women just being too sexually alluring  to perverted men then, believe me, every woman from prehistoric to maybe Elizabethan times would  have been raped due to a lack of defenses.  Nay, it is not in a normal, healthy man's nature.

  13. How can you stop crime in general? You can't, all you can do is prepare for the worst. If a woman wants to prevent rape, she should arm herself.

  14. I think they are made, it isn't natural to become a rapist. We can slow down rape by making flesh-lights more readily available or controversy make prostitution legal.

  15. There is some controversy about that.

I am willing to admit that some rape is caused by miscommunication on a date, when "No!" is not uttered with enough force and conviction. Of course, the man still should have heeded any "no" he heard. But in this case, a rapist is made by incident. These kinds of rapes are probably the easiest to stop in terms of education for both men and women, and also avoiding sexual relationships until people know each other well enough to communicate what they want and don't want with reasonable clarity.

Then there are rapes in which mental illness might factor in for the man. I'm not using mental illness as an excuse, simply as a reason. Narcissistic Personality Disorder makes it very difficult for the person with it to hear the word "no." They feel special and entitled. The rules do not apply to them. Rapists in this case are still "made." Narcissistic personality disorder is developed during ones early life and manifests in a person's late teens or 20s. There is no know cause of it pinpointed exactly. Thoughts and behaviors of the narcissist can be controlled with therapy.

One exception is the Sociopath rapist. As far as we know, sociopaths are born. The ability to love, empathize and feel guilt seem absent no matter what background the person is from. Unfortunately there is no way to make a sociopath rapist not want to rape. There is no way to make them feel remorse for anything they do. In this case, it really is up to the woman to protect herself.

Finally on a societal level, even though we must juggle with conveying the need for women to take steps to protect themselves, we must not allow the "she made me do it!" defense for any reason. The idea that women should dress more modestly may be useful for keeping her slightly more safe. But this should not ever be done at the expense of giving rapists a socially-sanctioned excuse.

  16. You can't be born with your action or your future.

That myth about extra Y chromosome was blasted sometime ago. Its the choices you make that in turn makes you.
