What's the best PRODUCED album you've ever heard?

I say The Low End Theory

the production is...practically breathtaking. This album requires a SERIOUS listen. Listen to the flows on this rap. They are poetry with perfect expression. Pay attention to what they are saying. These men are geniuses. They are as good as any poet to ever live.

Now, listen to the production.

This is the type of production that is so INTENSE in all the right, and SUBTLE ways, that no one could ever get the full effect without paying attention. Finding the patterns of the beats in this album is like trying to decipher a verse. It is incredibly interactive and complex. Pay attention on a decent system and you will notice brilliant patterns in the background that you might just completely ignore if you didn't pay attention. Sewed together like a handcrafted rug.

  12. Its so hard to name just one. Low End Theory is definitely up there, no question. Being a huge Premo fan, I'm going to say Gang Starr's Hard to Earn (1994). For me, that was the pinnacle of his production - Mass Appeal, Code of the Streets, DWYCK, Now You're Mine..too dope!Others definitely worth mentioning:

36 Chambers - The RZArector (could be the most "complete" hip hop album ever produced)

Paid in Full - Eric B (soul sampling extraordinnaire)

It Takes a Nation of Millions - Bomb Squad (see above but even better)

Mama Said Knock You Out - Marley Marl (title track says it all)

Critical Beatdown - Ced Gee of Ultramagnetic MC's (i listen to this and just shake my head in amazement at the business of the production)

Mecca & The Soul Brother - Pete Rock (sick jazz sound)

2001 - Dr Dre (bump this in your SUV and you got the whole block bobbin' their heads)

  13. Illmatic or 2001

  14. 1 =InI - Center of attention (Pete Rock)

  16. Even though I do have to agree with you that your choice of "The Low End Theory" is a very good one, and for all the reasons you said....I have one that in my opinion rates just a touch above.  Bizarre Ride II by Pharcyde has always been a favorite of mine in production and also as a favorite album.  It was produced mainly by  band member J-Swift but also by L.A. Jay and Slimkid 3.  It came out in Nov of 1992, it's an oldy, but a goody.  The lush, jazzy sound scape through the use of sampling and live instrumentation was what made this album unique to me.  J-Swift used a lot of old samples like James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix & Marvin Gaye just to name a few.  Swift also provided piano, bass & rhodes on the album while fellow producer JMD provided drum arrangements.  Allmusic called the production "easily some of the tightest and most intensive of any hip-hop record of the era".  NME magazine stated Pharcyde used jazz samples and phat beats to the ultimate effect: to create their own sonic Utopia.  This one is my favorite for production.

    Peace & Love :)

  17. Close between Nas and maybe the new one by Ice Cube called Raw Footage

  18. the black album it was great

  19. Your mom's f**t noises.

  20. I know this might sound kinda crazy but I'm still bumpin the first Bloods and Crips Banging on Wax CD.

It came out at a time my hood was really deep into color and banging and we represented like we suppose to and it's still in my tape deck!!!

  21. Doggystyle or Illmatic

I think Illmatic might be the best.. It def had the best production team anyway..

But Doggystyle for me personally.. Dre was on top form for that..

  22. Carter 3 is da bezt album eva.

  23. Uuhmm... ok. I don't know. I don't really know what the producer of a record does... I mean some people write the stuff, so... what does he do? Stuff in the studio or sth?
