Last summer I bought a pair of Crocs and used them at the beach to walk in the surf. I just dug them out?

again, and the color seems to be considerably less vibrant. I haven't worn them since the beach, and they're less than a year old. Does the sea water have this effect? I'm assuming that the salt isn't sticking to them, as I've throughly rinsed them several times. Just want to know for future reference.

  1. Yes, the salt from the salt water will react with the dye used to color the crocs. The dye is typically built into the polymer for the croc's plastic housing and the polymer degrades whenever it is exposed to open ions from the salt water.

    The crocs will eventually degrade from prolonged exposure to salt water. Rinsing the crocs in neutral water will slow this process down but not completely stop it.
