Last-year defeat: Stacy Lewis firm to put her grim past behind as she steels for showdown at Evian Masters 2012
American Stacy Lewis has clearly shaken off the memories of her heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Ai Miyazato in the 2011 Evian Masters, as she is now focusing on how to take revenge of her loss in the coming
edition of the prestigious tournament.
The Evian Masters 2012 is scheduled to start this Thursday, at the Evian-les-Bains, France, and will feature almost all the big names on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
Lewis was fired up last year when she set foot on the course, but the field at the 2011 Evian Masters proved much more resilient than she had anticipated. With Ai Miyazato having stunned the fans with her amazing
performance, Lewis had been subdued in the final moments and she faced a two-stroke defeat.
Now that the field is all set to kick off the 2012 edition of the Evian Masters, the question, whether the American star can fend off her rivals this year, is looming large. Lewis, however, appears to be unfazed
by the last-year defeat, although it did shatter her dream to rack up her second victory for the 2011 season.
Lewis’s first victory for the 2011 season came at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April. The Kraft Nabisco Championship is one of the major tournaments on the LPGA Tour, and grabbing a title at the event
certainly added shine to her profile.
The American prodigy has been lucky enough to be under scrutiny by her fans and critics, as it has helped her fix some fatal flaws in her game. Thanks to her improved form, Lewis has managed to boost her position
in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. She currently ranks third in the world.
On the other hand, the defending champion Miyazato, who hails from Japan, will be keeping track of Lewis, as she still remembers how tough it was to outperform her nearest rival at the 2011 Evian Masters.
Despite a strong field featuring plenty of prominent LPGA contenders, Miyazato is expected to stay strong. Speaking to the media about her plans for the tournament, the Japanese prodigy said that she is quite
happy that she is back on the course where she hoisted her seventh LPGA trophy a year ago.
