Lastchancelucas heading with high chances in the Investec Woodcote Stakes at Epsom
Epsom will host the Investec Woodcote Stakes (Listed Race) over six furlongs on Saturday, 2nd June with a line-up of nine two-year-old runners. The prize money set for the winner is £14,178.
Unbeaten through the career and the most promising entry for the race is Lastchancelucas, Ishiguru’s two-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Light Of Aragon. He got done with his maiden stakes the first time that he tried on 2nd May at Pontefract over five furlongs.
He then grabbed the Ripleycollection.Com E B F Novice Stakes on 16th May at York over five furlongs. Riding with Jason Hart, he led the runner up of the race, Hoofalong, by just half a length.
The 9/4 favourite of the race, Tatlisu, ended fifth on the track of eight.
He has not raced at Epsom before and will race the third outing of his debut season there.
Equally competitive on the field is Heavy Metal, Exceed And Excel’s two-year-old bay colt out of mare, Rock Opera. He has been active thrice during the new season and has claimed the last two starts.
He won the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Stakes on 3rd May at Brighton over five and a half furlongs. The 7/4 favourite led the runner up, Lady Phill, by a length.
He then won the Squires Restaurant At Bedford Lodge Hotel Novice Stakes on 18th May at Newmarket over six furlongs as the 13/8 favourite. He was accompanied by Mirco Demuro.
Finishing the closest was Rising Legend and catching up with the third spot was Birdman.
As is the case with Lastchancelucas, Heavy Metal has not raced at Epsom before and 2nd June will be his first ever attempt there.
The line-up for the race is particularly lightly raced and even though their experience is not substantial, they have proved their ability and potential by grabbing the most recent race (in the case of majority). The outcome of the race will shed light on how to steer their juvenile campaign and which races to opt for in the future.
Lastchancelucas can reach out for his debut hat trick by keeping the performance level intact.
