Lastings Milledge dominates as Chicago White Sox defeat Colorado Rockies 12-6 – MLB Update
Lastings Milledge put in a brilliant batting performance as the Chicago White Sox beat Colorado Rockies 12-6 at Salt River Fields in Arizona on March 17.
Milledge was very excited by finding his place in the Major League game which was effective from this spring season. The 25-year-old inked a Minor League contract with the White Sox before the opening. However, he is playing with his fourth Major League
club and he seems to be content with his position now. It seemed as if Milledge had something to prove, which he managed to do with a great performance.
Lastings had struck carefully in the seventh inning, went 9 for 22 with hitting average of .409. He has four homers, seven runs and seven RBIs. Paul Konerko had a run and a double for the White Sox. He had also lost four runs out of last five. Jordan Danks
and Ramon Castro both made two RBIs.
Speaking at the press conference, Milledge said, “It's about being aggressive. Last year I had a totally different approach and I took that aggressiveness away from myself. Being aggressive got me to the majors.”
Milledge started the game off with a quick single to Ubaldo Jimenez, who stayed as a composed pitcher in the National League contest during 2010. Jimenez gave up the first run later in the ninth inning and then permitted the first homer of the spring season.
The Rockies’ General Manager Jim Tracy said, “We were not real clean today. You have to deal with that occasionally. Knowing he was not as sharp as he usually is, the only glitch was going from 0-2 to walking the pitcher. We had moments where we didn't make
good pitches.”
Todd Helton, Jonathan Herrera and Cole Garner each had run, as Mike McKenry had three home-runs for the Rockies.
The Rockies have pitchers like Jhoulys Chacin and Jorge De La Rosa who will pitch in Minor League games for the next two days. Their replacements, John Maine and Greg Reynolds will throw to Major League batters.
The White Sox will be satisfied with their tremendous performance as they managed to restrict the Rockies’ offence from scoring massive runs. Colorado will be disappointed with their efforts as they fought hard and were close for most of the game, but let
it slip away. Chicago did a good job to support the pitching line-up and get some much needed runs on the board.
It will be interesting to see how the White Sox carry their winning momentum through Spring Training and into the regular season which is scheduled to start soon.
