Laszlo Cseh clinches Men’s 400m IM gold – 2012 Salnikov Cup
Laszlo Cseh of Hungary clinched gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 International Vladimir Salnikov Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Friday, December 21.
The Hungarian swimmer lived up to the expectations of his supporters and dominated the playoff of the event. With his unrelenting efforts, Cseh remained comfortably faster from his following swimmer and pocketed the title.
His exhausting effort remained more than half a body length ahead of his closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for the title with an effort of 4 minutes and 07.57 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.57 seconds faster from Maxym Shemberyev of Ukraine, who made his way to the finishing wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 08.14 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Alexander Tikhonov of Russia, who stayed 1.05 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 09.19 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Sergey Strelnikov, who stayed 1.22 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 10.41 seconds.
Strelnikov was trailed by Mikhail Mikheev, who stayed 3.45 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and completed his race in fifth place by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes 13.86 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Sergey Kashperskiy of Russia, who suffered a loss of 2.60 seconds from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 4 minutes and 16.46 seconds.
Subsequently, Kashperskiy enjoyed an advantage of 0.22 seconds over Sergiy Varvaruk of Ukraine, who concluded his race in seventh place by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 16.68 seconds for seventh place.
Travis Mahoney of Australia was disqualified from the playoff due to an improper start and was unable to secure any position.
In addition, Cseh received massive admiration from the audience for his gruelling efforts and said that he would try hard to please his fans by accomplishing the same in forthcoming swimming events.
