Laszlo Cseh clinches the Men’s 200m Individual Medley title -
2011 Canet En Roussillon
Laszlo Cseh of Hungary dominated his way in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) final, to secure the gold medal on day one of the
2011 Canet En Roussillon.
The Canet En Roussillon is a two-day international swimming championship and is the third stop of the 2011 Mare Nostrum Series.
Cseh claimed the title of the 200m IM event by touching the wall first in a time of 1 minute and 58.99 seconds. Kenneth To of Australia secured the podium for the silver medal, posting a wonderful time of 1 minute and 59.89 seconds. Kenneth was 1.46 seconds
faster than his following swimmer, Austria’s Dinko Jukic, who emerged on the podium for the bronze medal, touching the wall in a time of 2:01.35 minutes.
Cseh is a four-time Olympic Games medallist and also, an eight-time World Championships winner. He won a bronze medal in the 400m IM at the 2004 Athens Olympics, whereas, he obtained three silver medals in the events of 200m butterfly, 400m IM and the 200m
IM at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The champion earned a slight lead from his fellow swimmers in the first lap of the race, completing his first lap in 25.39 seconds. Jukic followed him on the first turn as the second fastest swimmer in 25.42 seconds, ahead of Kenneth’s 25.58 seconds effort.
In the second lap, Cseh sustained his fastest spot, completing his swim in a time of 55.15 seconds. Kenneth elevated his swim in the second lap, overpowering Jukic’s effort by touching the wall second in a time of 55.89 seconds, as compared to Jukic’s 56.26
seconds effort.
Cseh and Kenneth continued their battle in the third lap, where the gold medallist completed his lap in 1:30.26 seconds and stayed 0.58 seconds away from the Australian swimmer. In the final lap, he gained a lead of almost one second over Kenneth, finishing
his swim in 1:58.99 seconds.
The arena enjoyed beautiful effort of Cseh, who claims to be prepared for the upcoming swimming battle at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, this July.
