Laszlo Cseh of Kobanya Sport Club won the gold medal in the Men’s 50m butterfly on the fourth day of the 2011 Hungarian Long Course Nationals.
The national champion won the gold medal in the 50m event, by clocking a stunning time of 23.78 seconds. He was 0.74 seconds away from his team-member and closest competitor, Bence Pulai, who touched the wall for the silver medal by clocking a time of 24.52 seconds. Krisztian Takacs of Dunaferr – DVSI followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, by clocking a time of 24.53 seconds.
Cseh was 0.21 seconds behind his own national mark of 23.57 seconds, which he made during 2009. The Hungarian swimmer had already won three silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, where he dominated the events of 200m butterfly, 200m Individual Medley (IM) and 400m IM. He won two gold medals in the 200m IM and 400m IM at the 2010 Budapest European Long Course Championships.
The champion gained a comfortable lead over his fellow competitors from the start of the race. He looked strong from the starting blocks and his energetic swimming provided him a comfortable victory, as he was the fastest to touch the wall in 23.78 seconds.
The battle was not restricted among podium finishers only, as Norbert Kovacs and Zsombor Szana tried to overwhelm each other for the fourth fastest spot throughout the race. Laszlo’s team-member, Kovacs, finished his swim in the fourth fastest place, by touching the wall in a time of 25.36 seconds. Szana of A Jovo SC Veolia failed to overcome Kovacs’s effort and settled on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer, with a timing of 25.68 seconds.
Adam Szilagyi and Laszlo Gyurka completed their swims in the sixth and seventh fastest times of 25.71 and 25.72 seconds, respectively. Balint Batka was the final swimmer to touch the wall, as he posted a time of 25.85 seconds.
Cseh was very happy with his golden effort and expressed that he will try to give his best at the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
