Laszlo Cseh seizes Men’s 200m IM gold: Day three – European LC Championships
Laszlo Cseh of Hungary seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day three of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
Cseh, who qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, met expectations of his supporters by snaring gold medal of the 200m event. With his astonishing efforts and utter determination, he faced no trouble in claiming the title of the distant IM event.
His scintillating form in the 200m discipline placed him in a comfortable lead over his challengers and he tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.66 seconds for gold medal.
The champion remained 1.18 seconds faster from his subsequent rival, James Goddard of Great Britain, who secured silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.84 seconds.
The second fastest finisher was chased by Markus Rogan of Austria, who remained nearly 1.50 seconds apart but succeeded in securing third fastest spot of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 59.39 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Gal Nevo of Israel, who stayed 0.35 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 59.74 seconds.
Next were the semi-finals of Men’s 200m breaststroke, where Daniel Gyurta aroused hopes of his fans for gold medal by occupying top qualifying position.
The 23-year-old Gyurta remained nearly one body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall for first position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.06 seconds.
His furious efforts remained 0.86 seconds ahead of Marco Koch of Germany, who obtained second best qualifying position of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.92 seconds.
Koch was chased by Panagiotis Samilidis of Greece, who finished third with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.53 seconds while Igor Borysik of Ukraine concluded his race in third place with an effort of 2 minute and 11.91 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received medals at the ceremony of the tournament while these finalists will contend each other in their respective playoff for gold medal.
