France international Guillaume Hoarau scored at the death as Paris Saint-Germain drew 2-2 against fellow title contenders Montpellier Herault at the Parc des Princes. The result means that PSG are still on top in Ligue 1
The Ligue 1 encounter between Paris Saint-Germain and Montpellier Herault was perhaps the biggest game of Week 24 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 Championnat. Ahead of the game, Paris Saint-Germain led La Paillade by just a point.
The game at the Parc des Princes was billed to be a spicy encounter and at the final whistle, the game certainly lived up to its billing.
Furthermore, the game was even more anticipated as two sides with two different schools of thought were going to lock horns. Paris Saint-Germain have invested heavily on new players since last summer while Montpellier president, Loulou Nicollin’s eye for
talent has made Rene Girard’s side one of the most exciting teams in France.
Inside ten minutes, the game had its first real moment when PSG goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salvatore-Sirigu-c32282 was called upon to deny John Utaka. A few minutes later, Olivier Giroud tested the Italian’s agility. The start of the game certainly signalled that Montpellier Herault
meant business as they stretched the PSG defence thoroughly.
The hosts were too slow and their keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Geoffrey-Jourdren-c14538 was called into action in the 23rd minute when he easily collected a weak effort from Kevin Gameiro.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082 who had to wait for his turn from the bench.
Les Parisiens have arguably the best attacking unit in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and it was a big surprise that it was a defender who opened scoring.
January signing from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752’s second game for PSG and first goal for them.
Despite conceding, Montpellier refused to back down and scored a deserved goal in 1st minute of injury time. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hilton-c16219 provided an excellent cross to Younes Belhanda and the Moroccan headed the ball beyond Sirigu to score his 7th goal
of the campaign.
A lot of talk had been around Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud who had scored 16 goals in Ligue 1. The Frenchman proved that he was good when it comes to providing assists as well. The France international excellently picked out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Utaka-c18898 whose header
was too far out for Sirigu (83rd minute).
However, that was not the end of the action as PSG showed their worth. A brilliant run from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guillaume-Hoarau-c15332. The Frenchman guided the ball in the net in the 88th minute to make it 2-2.
The result now means that PSG stay on top of the Ligue 1 standings but Montpellier are still just a point behind them which means that the title race is still wide open.
