The Spurs beat Liverpool as Aaron Lennon scored a beauty in the last minutes of the match. The win has pushed Tottenham to the top four on the table.
From the start, Tottenham seemed pretty attacking as their first attack came after 4 minutes when Aaron worked beautifully on the right wing and placed a stunning cross in the penalty box where Luca Modric received it on a volley but could not hit it cleanly.
In the tenth minute, Tottenham were struck with a major blow when their all important star, who was under injury inspection from some time now, couldn’t make it any further and was forced out of the game. Jermain Defoe was brought into the field in his place.
In the 41st Minute Liverpool struck its first and only goal of the match. Merireles took a free kick from Skrtel. It hit back of the head of Ngog and returned to Skrtel who then proved to be too good for Gomes as he directed the ball into the
net.
In the second half, Tottenham were given another chance to level the game over a free kick. As the free kick was taken it hit the hand of David Ngog and a penalty was given. Nothing could have been more generous for the spurs but their choice was Defoe who
once again could not deliver for them this year and missed this opportunity.
Minutes later Modric created tension in the Liverpool defence by showing a lot of intent. His cross from the left side was deflected in the Liverpool net by Skrtel equalising the match to 1-1 and diminished the effect of his own goal.
The match continued at a variable pace. Everyone was anticipating a draw but who could have imagined that Aaron Lennon would cut across Liverpool defence and score a beauty that will put them in the front and earn them full points for the game.
This match aspired many as they saw Tottenham fight their way back in the top four. As for its critics, it made a statement that they are still in the race. Tottenham fans are up and alive again with a lot of expectations now from their side in the future
fixtures.
