The hosts were making a comeback in the end but there just wasn’t enough time and of course Barcelona proved too strong. With just one match left for both Barcelona and Real Madrid this is getting real close a race for the title.
During the season of 96-97 under Fabio Capello, Barca made the record for 92 points. But back then there were 22 teams and now they are 20. Now they have already surpassed the previous record and seems like they will go for 99 while they are now at 96.
As everybody went to the Ramón Sánche Pizjuán everybody knew it would be worth their while to see the match but they didn’t expect the end score.
Barca scored first in less than 5 minutes of the start of the game. There was a good pass to Lionel Messi from Scherrer Cabelino Maxwell. Messi controlled it brilliantly on his chest before launching for the goal past Andres Palop, Sevilla goal keeper. There were calls made for offside but Messi was in, just on the line.
With that goal Messi’s account was rewritten; this being 32nd league goal and brought his tally to 45th just 2 short of the record set by Ronaldo.
Then there was the perfect pass from Xavier Hernandez to Krkic Bojan. The pass was placed right between the goal keeper and the defender and Bojan did well to finish the job scoring in the end at the 27th minute. This was Bojan’s 8th goal of La Liga.
Then in the 61st minute there was another attempt by Messi but it was blocked by Sevilla defender. The rebound went to Pedro Rodríguez who was standing near Messi and standing from there he rocketed the ball past the goal and brought it home. It was an amazing strike which made his number of goals for the season to 11. With the score 3-0 Pep Guardiola raised his fists in joy as he knew the match was now sealed but little did he know about the drama that was about to happen.
In the 68th minute Frédéric Kanouté scored a goal. He went on to face Victor Valdes in the end after cutting the last line of defenders and finished it well. This happened to be his 11th goal of the season. With the goal from Kanouté Guardiola seemed pretty angry at the outcome.
There was more drama in the 70th minute as Sevilla had a free kick and they took it almost immediately. Didier Zokora took the free kick and passed instantly to Luís Fabiano who made an impeccable finish in the end.
The end scores were 3-2 and though Barca won Sevilla did well in the end not to mention that there team was down to 10 men. With Real on their tails the next match will take place on the 16th at Camp Nou with Real Valladolid. If they manage to win this match the title will go to Barcelona.
