A concrete knock from Darren Bravo rushed West Indies to 107 for 3 at the end of the 2nd session on the third day of the Test.
The visitors lost two of their vital wickets during the session. Chris Gayle and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 fell to the Sri Lankan bowlers, which meant that the experienced campaigners were back in the hut. But Darren Bravo, in his second Test, was on a mission
to provide strength to the West Indies reply. He ended the session unbeaten at 52 runs after Sri Lanka declared on 387 for 9 earlier.
Gayle was in threatening form once again, as he raced to 31 runs of 30 deliveries thanks to some awful bowling by Suranga Lakmal. Gayle seemed brutal on anything slack, drilling the deliveries from Lakmal all around the park. At times Lakmal surprised the
batsman with short deliveries.
Kumar Sangakkara, the skipper, did not lose confidence in his young bowler, who at last paid off. A steeping bouncer caught Gayle’s edge as he attempted to hook, only to give the catch to Angelo Mathews. The bowler was delighted to record his first wicket
in Test matches.
Tillakaratne Dilshan picked up two wickets in one over to boost http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s hopes of gaining lead in the second Test. The solid batting performance from Bravo came to an end when he was dismissed at 80. Dilshan also picked up the wicket of Brendan Nash on
29 before the bad light set in. West Indies was still trailing by 222 runs at stumps on day 3.
Darren Bravo at one point was confident when he was batting. He negotiated the spinners in a confident manner, advancing down the track often. Brendan Nash also looked comfortable against the spinners who were getting some turn from the track towards the
end of the day.
With a score of 165-5 at the end of day 3, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 is expected to struggle tomorrow.
The Sri Lankan team hopes to continue the momentum in the next session. Two important wickets at the end came down as a favour for them as bad light had almost stopped play.
