Late encounter helps Los Angeles Angels defeat Kansas City Royals 10-8 - MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels came from behind to overpower league rivals Kansas City Royals after a close confrontational 10-8 series opener at Kauffman Stadium on Monday, May 30.
After starting the game with an RBI in the top of the first inning, the Angels’ starter Ervin Santana could not restrict the opposition from removing the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Alex Gordon launched a dazzling 437-feet long one-run homer on Ervin’s first pitch of the game. Then Ervin allowed a walk before giving his second homer to Eric Hosmer, who launched a 361-feet long two-run homer to take the lead to 3-1.
In the second inning, Hosmer scored an RBI double and then Jeff Francoeur hit a sacrifice to left-field to elevate the Royals to strong 6-1 position.
After this, Santana restricted the opposition to just six until the end of his six innings spell in which he allowed seven hits including two homers, walked four and struck-out five batters.
As Santana had stopped the score, the Angels’ batters succeeded to avoid the pressure that might otherwise have sent them into very aggravated situation. Bobby Abreu and Alberto Callaspo provided some relief touching an RBI single each off the Royals’ starter
Everett Teaford to trim the lead to 3-6 in the top of the third inning.
Afterwards, Torii Hunter scored an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning followed by a 436-feet long one-run homer in the top of the seventh to reduce the lead 5-6.
Rich Thompson replaced Santana in the bottom of the inning but failed to maintain the momentum after the second inning. He scattered two RBI runs, one each to Wilson Betemit and Chris Getz that sent the Angels again under a three run deficit.
Facing a 8-5 deficit, Mark Trumbo managed to touch a striking 472-feet long one-run homer followed by a 377-feet long one-run homer by Peter Bourjos to reduce the lead 7-8 in the top of the eighth inning.
Hunter launched a 413-feet long lead generating two-run homer off the Royals’ closer Joakim Soria in the top of the ninth inning. Trumbo scored an RBI single to finalise the Angels’ 29th win of the season.
