Late encounter helps New York Yankees overpower Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 - MLB Update
The American League’s New York Yankees successfully struck back in the later innings to take 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at the Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night, May 24, to tie the series 1-all.
The Yankees were facing a 4-1 deficit in the eighth inning when Robinson Cano entered the plate for his fourth at-bat and blistered a shot to deep right centre-field for an RBI single. Then Russell Martin added a second RBI in the same inning to cut the
lead 3-4.
The Yankees were pessimistic to achieve their 26th win of the season. In the ninth inning, Curtis Granderson hit to right-field to tie the game 3-all. Then Mark Teixeira drove in a shallow drive to the right side of the field to earn a game winning RBI single
on the last pitch of the game.
After Russell Martin launched a leading homer off the Jays’ starter Ricky Romero in the first inning, the Yankees’ starter Carsten Charles Sabathia gave away tying single in the third inning and then yielded three more runs in the fourth inning to send his
team under 4-1 deficit.
However, Sabathia bounced back in a great fashion and remained scoreless until the end of the game. He tossed his full game, allowed four runs over eight hits, allowed one walk and struck out three batters to earn his fifth win of the season. With this win
Sabathia has moved to a 5-3 record with 3.17 in this season.
After allowing a homer in the first inning, Romero did not yield any run and finished his seven innings spell allowing seven hits, walking three and striking out four batters. As soon as he handed over the responsibility to reliever Casey Janssen, the game
went out of the Jays’ hands.
The Jays’ manager John Farrell keep on changing his pitcher with short spells to avoid the Yankees from getting set, but the move did not work out for the AL franchise Toronto Blue Jays. Reliever Marc Rzepczynski scattered one run while closer Frank Francisco
yielded two runs.
The Jays’ Corey Patterson scored an RBI single in the third inning to lead the game off for the club. Catcher Jonathan Paul Arencibia, Rajai Davis and John McDonald all scored an RBI each in the fourth inning.
McDonald sacrificed to first base, scoring Edwin Encarnacion and allowing Davis to steal second base. J. McDonald went safely at the first base and Davis reached to the third base on error by second baseman Cano.
