Question:

Late period, negative pregnancy test?

Hi, I was hoping for a little insight. Normally I have a very regular cycle - 28, 29 days. I last had my period on the 25th of July. I ended up having unprotected s*x w/ my fiance around the 16th (which I thought was way late in my cycle to get pregnant). I was supposed to get my period around the 23rd of August. Um, well now it is September 2nd. I took a pregnancy test last night and it came back negative. I'm 25 and getting married in October, so it's not like it would be a big deal if I was pregnant...but I don't think I am, I mean if I was then I would have had a positive test. This is seriously stressing me out here. Are there any other reasons why I must be late? What should I do here?

  1. omg!!!! i am on the exact cycle you are and the same thing happened to me except if i conceived mine was on the fourth!!! i am soooo confused too. i have no pregnancy symptoms and no period symptoms!! this sucks i cant figure out why i would be so late!! sometimes though the pregnancy test are not accurate until you build up enough hcg for it to come back positive!!! all women a re different!!  i took mine this morning and a negative! i have never just skipped a month either!! i wish you luck though i know what you are going through!!

  2. It's possible to have a false negative on a pregnancy test.

If you drank too much before taking the test (in order to make yourself need to pee) that could affect the results.

You really need to take the test in the morning, your first pee. That will give you the most accurate result.

Also, if you've lost a lot of weight or are very skinny your period can be affected.

  3. Have you lost a lot of weight lately?  Taking new medications?  Not eating well?  Been sick?  All of these can cause your period to come late or stop completely.  Or sometimes our periods just come late for no reason, and it always seems to be at the worst times too!  If the test came back negative then you are likely not pregnant, wait another week and if you still haven't gotten your period then test again, if it is still negative by then, see a doctor.

  4. Your getting married in October, it could just be from stress!  Sometimes you don't feel stressed out but your body knows better.
