Late season success suggests Philadelphia Phillies will improve in 2013-MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies flailed all through the last season, until the ending phase of it.
That gives a reason to believe that they will start the next season on a high.
The Phillies struggled to overcome aggressive shows against them from the oppositions at the beginning of the 2012 season.
Their main players failed miserably. Unable to perform at potential, some of them were sent to other teams through trades later.
Resultantly, some young players were introduced by the club.
The results were immediate and favourable too, as the Phillies improved sharply the last few months before the conclusion of the season.
One of the reasons why Philadelphia floundered was the lack of proper run-support for their starting pitchers.
Their rotation is considered one of the best in the major league. Yet, hurlers failed to ensure wins for the Phillies consistently.
The pitchers of the calibre of Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels could not steady team’s expedition, in the face of poor shows coming off from batters.
The line-up devoid of the pillars of the offence such as Ryan Howard and Chase Utley posted inadequate totals on the scoreboard.
There were some games when Lee was impeccable at the mound but he registered the loss.
By many accounts, his 2012 season record is poor because of the offence of the club.
It is more so considering the fact that his numbers improved, when the offence started to produce runs regularly late in the season.
The rise of some young outfielders and return to form by Lee supplies hope to the fans for the 2013 season.
It is an encouraging sign for the club that some of their minor leaguers have shown incredible credentials to succeed at the competitive level.
The Phillies have strong back-up at the moment. Though some of the players are not the part of the 2013 season, they can prove useful at the time of need down the line.
For example, if the recently acquired third baseman from the Texas Rangers, Michael Young, fails in 2013, the Phillies can promote some of the minor leaguers to the big league.
They can do so assured of not being disappointed by them.
All in all, the Phillies have a lot of positives going into the upcoming season.
