Question:

Late tax return fine. Do I have to pay?

I have been fined for a late tax return. It's for the 1st year of my gardening business. Having now done the form, it shows I have no tax to pay for the year. I understand that if I don't owe any tax, I can't be fined for it being late. Is this true?

  1. The fine is limited to the tax due or £100.

If no tax was due, then appeal against the penalty.

  2. if you owe tax or not you will still be fined as you sent your tax returns in late.it has got nothing to do with what you owe it is sending the forms back on time
