Late try by Lucas Amorosino seals victory for Argentina in clash against Scotland - Rugby World Cup
Argentina took out Scotland in an exciting Rugby World Cup 2011 pool match on Sunday, September 25.
The initial stages of the math were slow and left Scotland in a good position of winning the game by a close margin of 12-6 with just eight minutes left before the final whistle. However, the Scottish defence unveiled its loop holes to Lucas Amorosino and handed over the victory as the Argentineans ran rampant with the pill. Argentina put together a remarkable win of 13-12 and has secured its berth into the quarter-final stages.
The match started in a very sluggish way as the sides looked reluctant to make a bold run into the opponent’s halves. Scrums, ruck and mauls were being repeated in the match regularly until Felipe Contepomi gave his side an initial lead into the 18th minute of the match with a penalty goal. The score was levelled by Scotland very late in the first-half as Chris Paterson paid back the Pumas in a similar fashion during the 35th minute of the match.
Ruaridh Jackson grabbed a further penalty goal for Scotland just a couple of minutes before the break and gave his side a psychological boost over the Pumas as the Scottish side led the game with 6-3 at the break.
Yet again, the match was hanging in the balance as Contepomi shaped a nice penalty goal for the Pumas. A couple of drop goals put the Scottish side in a good position to clinch an upset victory over Argentina but excellent work from Amorosino deprived Scotland a hard fought victory. Argentina snatched the win from the jaws of Scotland with a slight margin of 13-12.
