Late winner from David Pizarro moves http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 closer to fourth place: Serie A match update
AS Roma beat Lecce 2-1 in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio via del mare on Friday evening. A late goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Pizarro-c10581 helped the visitors to close the gap on the fourth UEFA Champion’s League spot.

The game started at a slow pace and the visitors enjoyed a majority of possession in the early minutes. Roma created several goal scoring opportunities but could not threaten the goal in the opening 20 minutes.
The first real chance of the game came in the 22nd minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Cassetti-c23682 was found unmarked in the box but he dragged his shot wide off the target. Unfortunately for the visitors, Cassetti had to be substituted three minutes into play, after
he picked up a groin strain.
All the good work paid off though and Roma opened the scoring in the 28th minute. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mirko-Vucinic-c26024 made a superb run in the Lecce box , had options of passing it in the middle but he smashed the ball into corner of the net from 18 yards to take a
deserved lead for Roma.
Lecce looked to bounce back after conceding and should have scored twice before the half time whistle. First Giacomazzi headed it over the bar from close range, followed by Andrea Rispolli, lifting a shot just over the goal from five yards.
The hosts started the second half at a blistering pace and came extremely close to scoring soon after the resumption. Daniele Corvia’s header from a corner kick was brilliantly saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Doni-c11553 from eight yards, to deny Lecce an equaliser.
After some brilliant display, Lecce found their opening goal in the 71st minute. After a brilliant move from the right flank, Gianni Munari’s cross was brilliantly headed into the goal by skipper Giacomazzi to make it 1-1.
The game dried up after the hosts equalised and when it seemed to be heading for a draw, Roma were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute. Munari handled the ball in his own penalty area and the referee had no hesitation pointing to the spot. Pizarro
took the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way to seal the tie at 2-1, right on the stroke of the full time whistle.
Roma will play Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champion’s League on 8th March, while Lecce will host Bologna on 13th March.
